Roomie Gifts

Do you remember the candy wrapper bigz die which has now been retired?  I based this on the pattern and made it bigger to house the pillar candle which I applied a motif to.  You can see the candle in the previous post here .

I made some double treat cups as table decorations or to hang on the tree  - and used one of these as a pillow gift for my roomie at Convention.  Apologies for the picture quality.

The rims of the cups were decorated with some DSP and I added Festive Flurry die cuts in glimmer paper to dress it and in between the gaps, I added rhinestones  or pearls.

Happy Thanksgiving

These are just some of the Thanksgiving samples I made for a show earlier in the year.  There are too many
so I've formatted it into a collage.

I've included two singles here so you can see perfectly.

It's a day to reflect and I wanted to say I am so thankful for my family and especially for my hubby who recently did something really sweet by driving me up to Manchester and back for convention because he knew how worried I was about driving myself.  I am thankful for so many things and often times life gets so busy we don't always remember to stop and make time to tell each other just how thankful we really are, especially if you've been married as long we have!  So today, although we don't mark Thanksgiving as a holiday celebration I just wanted take a moment to count my blessings and take stock of all the things that I am truly grateful and thankful for.  So thank you to my hubby for this selfless act and for which I am more than truly grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving Day for those who are celebrating Thanksgiving today.

MDS Digital Class Download

When I first bought the initial MDS software, it was a case of pretty much trial and error and learning from my mistakes.  Being a complete novice and not frightfully computer literate,  I was pleasantly surprised that even with my limited skills, I managed to design my new blog banner, do a few scrapbook layouts and even design and print off some cards.

As a Demo, I needed to try the product and learn about it in case customers asked me questions about it. Recently, Stampin' Up!  added Digital Classes which includes video tutorials too and I created the page below having been walked through the process with the tutorials that accompanies this download.   Lots of new tips and a comprehensive PDF document is included and a valuable resource which you can dip into while you get to grips with MDS.

Are you tempted?  I can guarantee that once you dip your toe in the water, you won't look back!  It's very addictive and just another string to your bow.  Traditionalists may frown upon this type of scrap booking, but there is no reason why you can't do both.  My family and friends are all in Australia and across the world, spread out in Canada, the States and the Far East.  I can see the benefits of having them electronically accessible so that they can access and share life's precious moments in this way.

Convention Swaps

Convention wouldn't be convention without swaps!  This year, I did things a little differently.  I went down the MDS route and once I'd designed the card, sent it off to Photobox to print 150 of these beauties.  I was delighted with the results.  It had a glossy finish and was true to Stampin' Up! colours.

I then punched out 150 elegant butterflies, layered with another 150 punched bitty butterflies and then added a pearl in the centre for each assembled pair and glued this onto each card making it a hybrid project.

I used the Bandstand Kit for this card.

Stampin' Up! Convention 2013

As you read this, I will be attending Stampin' Up!'s  annual Convention in Manchester.  UK is the host nation this year so I am thrilled that 3 of my team are attending with me this year!  The format has been changed slightly as our numbers grow, and it is more of a Stampin' Up! Expo with several classes to choose from running concurrently in different rooms of the Convention Centre.

As it is their first convention I made my wonderful team these souvenir albums packaged in a DVD case. The covers were personalised using MDS, and I custom made the album to co-ordinate with the colours on the cover.  The front and back covers have pockets to hold the Convention Agenda, Class List, Map of the Venue and meal vouchers which will be given out when they collect their Convention bags.

They also received these brooches - my team symbol is a butterfly.  I sewed the butterflies to the burlap ribbon and found that this simple ribbon loop worked the best.  I did try to make a flower, but the ribbon was too thick and bulky.  Well, as the saying goes, less is more!

I hope they like it.

VIDEO - #16 WEDNESDAY'S WORKSHOP WOW - Gift Packaging Countdown Wk 8

Today's video is all about packaging.  Stampin' Up! makes it so easy, particularly at this busy time of year.

Take advantage of the 20% saving on the Tag a Bag Bundles - visit my online store and email me if I can be of help.  Can you believe we are now on Week 8 already?

So onto the video…...

Here's a still photo of  the  customised box to hold the mini wine bottle.

The cards were made to be generic, but I did stamp the Itty Bitty Banner sentiments  in all three colours and popped them in a cello bag to include with the gift so that there was a choice in all three colour ways for each card as befit the occasion and they fit perfectly in the Decorative Label Box.

The envelops were a breeze to make especially with our new envelop punch board.

Ha ha!  Did that get your attention?  This was a technique I revisited last month,  new to my card club ladies though. I cased this from our very own Annual Catalogue with some minor adjustments - page 62.  My pearls have gone haywire from being packed in a box with other stuff.

The stamp set is Papaya Collage and the colour combo is Soft Sky and Summer Starfruit.

Here's another kissed card - the flower is from Create a Cupcake.

Festive Flurry & A Banner Christmas

I just loved working with the Soft Sky and Smoky Slate combo.   Here I've made a polaroid frame using the square framelits and attached a window sheet to it.  I experimented with heat & stick powder followed by dazzling diamonds which gave this subtle hue directly onto the window sheet and was delighted with the result.

The Joy banner was stamped in Coastal Cabana and is from A Banner Christmas in the seasonal catalogue. Using the smallest Festive Framelit, I die cut it in Silver glimmer paper, cut the centre out of the smallest festive flurry stamped in Coastal Cabana and layered it on dimensionals with a jumbo rhinestone to finish.

It looks fabby in real life.  Well, I like it, so I hope you do too.

Thanks for stopping by.

VIDEO - #15 WEDNESDAY'S WORKSHOP WOW - Countdown Wk 7 - Gift Bow Angel

For Week 7's countdown to Christmas, here's a christmas angel.  I saw a picture of this lovely angel made with the Gift Bow Bigz L Die on Cindi Wilkinson's blog here.  It's always nice to think of other ways to use the die other than for bows.

Here's my take on it.

Enjoy!  Let me know what you think!  I'd love to hear from you.

Calm Christmas

No MDS today, but I do have lots more cards I made for my preview event which I have yet to share.  I used Soft Sky for the card base, Old Olive core-dinations card stock as a layer, sanded round the edges and white embossed the dove and greeting on Very Vanilla card stock then sponged in soft sky for this effect.

I added some washi tape to complete the card.

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday is held on the 2nd Sunday in November closest to 11 November which was Armistice Day - the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 1100 hrs in 1918.  It is held primarily to commemorate the contirbution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars.  All over the UK, ceremonies at local war memorials in most cities, towns, villages will be taking place.  Wreaths of remembrance poppies are laid at the memorials and a two minute silence is observed at precisely 11.00 a.m., the church bells will toll but are half-muffled as a mark of respect.

I made this card as a tribute to our fallen heroes.

Thinlit Label Tea Party

Summer Starfruit paired with Midnight Muse.  It's a love/hate relationship with Summer Starfruit, used in small doses, against a dark background is easier on the eye.   The background was "Dictionary".

This is just one of the many extended thinlit cards I was experimenting with before its official launch date and wasn't sure if it would make it to my blog.  I was devastated when they retired "Tea Shoppe",  but the replacement "Tea Party" is starting to grow on me.

MDS MONDAY - Festive Flurry Hybrid card

G'day everyone! At the last Inspiring Inkin' Quarterly meeting I did an Inspiration Station on the Festive Flurry bundle.  While I had lots of cards done the traditional way, I thought it would be good to incorporate an  MDS twist on it too, so here goes.....

Once you open MDS, it will open a window where you need to select which project you'd like to work on, whether it's a new one, or an exisiting one which has been filed.  Of course this project is  new, so I clicked on "New Project" and selected"Custom" and chose to do portrait card front.   The finished design is above, I printed 4 to a page for my card fronts and trimmed it so I could then layer it onto a Smoky Slate card base.

In keeping with the Festive Flurry theme, I purchased the Festive Flurry Kit below, it's an extra, but all the other elements used were part of the original MDS package.  The items used were:

Embellishments - Designer Kits Joyful times, Bakers Twine, Designer Kits - Very Merry Twenty-Five

and here are the finished cards.

All the cards received the hybrid treatment, that is extra layering and embellishing.  The card on the left -I punched a scallop edge on the bottom, added Whisper White organza ribbon, stamped and die cut an extra smallest snowflake and adhered with dimensionals on top of the ribbon.  Faux pearls were added, but I chose the small ones so that it would be as flat as possible for posting.  (Click on the picture to enlarge it for a closer look)

The middle card has rhinestones and silver ribbon plus the candy dots.

The top right used Coastal Cabana ruffle stretch trim ribbon with rhinestones and the bottom right used candy dots and Whisper White bakers twine.

Four different looks with the same base design.

Hope you like it!
